Chukar Challenge 2025

Date:  Saturday, January 25, 2025

4 Chukars, 20-minute timed event

2 Divisions: Flushing and Pointing

Cost:  $110 per dog; $25 non-refundable deposit per entry

*One dog can only run one time; Handlers may enter more than one dog

All entries must register by Wednesday, January 15, 2025

Running order will be done on Tuesday, January 21, 2025

 

Prizes for first 3 places in each division

Teams will be judged on 4 categories:

  1. Flushing/pointing   2. Bagged birds    3. Retrieve    4. Shells remaining

*Also, will receive 1 extra point per 1 minute under time limit.

Rules for pointing division:

  1. Pointing dogs will be given 10 points for each find.

  2. Dogs will be scored 10 points for a full retrieve, and 5 points for a partial retrieve.

  3. Ten points for each bagged bird.

  4. Each handler will take 8 shells into the field and will score an extra 5-points for every shell not used.

  5. Dog must hold point for at least 5 seconds.

  6. There will be a 10-point deduction for a pointing dog that traps a bird. Handler must relinquish one shell.

  7. NEW FOR 2025: CHAMPIONSHIP CALL-BACK​​​​​​

              (Pointing Divison Only)

 

 1. For the pointing division, there will be three pointing fields limited to 15 runs each.

2. The top two dogs/handlers from each field will compete again in the championship run-off once all the preliminary runs are complete.

3. 3 Chukars, 15-minute time limit.

4. Run orders will be established via blind draw.

5. Call-back competitors will run in a neutral field that has not been utilized at all during the event until the championship.

6. The top 3 placements from this run-off will receive prizes.

 

Rules for Flushing division:

  1. Flushing dogs will be given 10 points for each flush.

  2. Dogs will be scored 10 points for a full retrieve, and 5 points for a partial retrieve.

  3. Ten points for each bagged bird.  

  4. For a trapped bird in the flushing division, all points will be awarded. handler must relinquish one shell.

  5. Each handler will take 8 shells into the field and will score an extra 5 points for each shell not used.

*There will be no point deductions for any incidences which threaten the safety of the judges, handlers, or dogs.  ***All handlers may use electric collars.

​

*To receive all points on a full retrieve, handler may only take one step, while keeping one foot planted on the ground; no laying down or using any object to retrieve a bird back to the handler.
