Upland Game Birds

At Big R Bird Ranch, we offer several types of game birds. All of our birds are cared for under humane conditions and are routinely exercised to ensure good flight during your hunt. Please call for additional information.

Pheasant

​

probably the best-known game bird, 60-89 cm (24-35 in) in length with a long brown streaked black tail, accounting for almost 50 cm (20 in) of the total length. The body plumage is barred bright gold and brown plumage with green, purple, and white markings. The head is bottle green with a small crest and distinctive red waffles. 1

Chukar

​

a relative of the partridge, a rotund 32-35 cm long bird, with a light brown back, grey breast, and buff belly. The face is white with a black gorget. It has rufous-streaked flanks and red legs. 2

Quail

​

a relative of the pheasant, a small (17 cm) rotund bird, essentially streaked brown with a white eyestripe and in the males, a black chin. 3
